WCCI'S Mark Schoening
Retires After 35 Years
After nearly 35 years Mark Schoening is retiring at WCCI 100. 3 FM Savanna Illinois as of August 15, 2014.
Mark first worked on and off on a part time basis in the 1970's, Mark returned to WCCI March 1982 as news
and sports director and has continued in that roll until his retirement. Mark will continue to be a shareholder in
Carroll County Communications Inc., owner of WCCI.

Mark's wife Jan retired this spring after 15 years as a math teacher in the West Carroll and Savanna school
systems. Before becoming a teacher Jan worked for 14 years in the medical records department at the Savanna
City Hospital.

Residents of northwest Illinois, eastern Iowa and southern Wisconsin have counted on Mark to help start their
day off right for many decades as he has anchored the morning drive shift since 1982. Mark also hosted the
areas most popular program on the air Trading Post. On the sports front you could hear Mark bring you high
school action from all over the area and he hosted Saturday mornings Coaches Corner program featuring all the
areas football and basketball coaches. As you traveled around the area whether it be a fair, community event or
big news story you could count on Mark being there to provide coverage for our listeners.

WCCI General Manager Beaver had this to say "Mark will be missed. You cannot replace an icon". What we
will do is fill the position with a person that will bring their own style in the same spirit of what Mark provided
our listeners for many years and we think we have done that with the addition of Wayne Larkey, a native of
Fulton Illinois, Wayne brings 30 plus years in broadcasting which he started  at WCCI while he was in high
school. Mark has helped make WCCI what it is today. I am fortunate to have Mark and Jan as friends and wish
them all the best..
